Performance Opportunities

There have been numerous performance opportunities throughout Term Two, all of which the students performed beautifully. The School was well represented at the Youth America Grand Prix International Dance School Festival in New York, The Australian Ballet's production of Giselle, Morning Melodies at Hamer Hall and the e.motion21 fundraising gala.

Morning Melodies

Morning Melodies performance at Hamer Hall included the works; Heart Strings choreographed by Margaret Wilson, Ballo Barocco by Stephen Baynes, Farruca by Areti Boyaci and Raymonda Grand Pas restaged by Lisa Pavane after Marius Petipa.

Family Support Programme (FSP)

Since launching the Family Support Programme, our team members have been busy introducing exciting initiatives, including the kick-off of the FSP Webinar Series with the inaugural event broadcast to the community on 4 April 2019. The audience took the opportunity to interact with the panel in real-time, making the webinar a...

ITP Classes & Open Masterclasses

Throughout the year the School offers Open Masterclasses, an open enrolment opportunity for young dance students to experience training with some of Australia’s leading dance teachers. Open Masterclasses are held in major Australian capital cities. Intra/Interstate & International Training Programme (ITP) offers training opportunities for Levels 1-3 who have successfully auditioned.

Alumni Richard House (2010)

Richard House joined the ABS in 2008 where he discovered a passion for choreography and was awarded the Graeme Murphy Award for Excellence in Contemporary Dance. He toured with The Dancers Company in 2010 and joined The Australian Ballet in 2011.

Alumni Remi Wortmeyer (2001)

Remi Wortmeyer graduated from the School in 2001. He spent eight years with The Australian Ballet dancing a vast repertoire including full-length principal roles. He is currently Eerste Soloist (Principal Dancer) with Dutch National Ballet.

House Day 2019

Our annual House Day was a huge success. Beginning in the studio with a fun student-led class and followed by a BBQ and team-building games and activities at Marilyn Rowe House. The overall trophy was won by Helpmann (green) House this year!

Spanish Study Block

On the 14 February, the ABS was very honoured to welcome the newly appointed Spanish Consul General, Antonio Polidura to a viewing of a Spanish Dance Rehearsal.  

Parent Access Week

Throughout the week the School opened its doors and offered the families of Students' the opportunity to observe the classes and get an insight into the training at The Australian Ballet School. During this week we held two special events; Generation Next and Film Night.

A Tribute to Dame Margaret

On the 24 February our Founding Director, Dame Margaret Scott AC DBE, peacefully passed away. "Dame Margaret set the foundations of The Australian Ballet School, paving the way for the School to become one of the world’s top ballet training schools." 

International Representation

Karina Arimura and Benjamin Garrett represented the School, participating in the 2019 Prix Choreographic project, where they joined 24 other students from 12 other Partner Schools, in a new creation by Dutch Choreographer Didy Veldman.
