Nobody could have predicted the impact and events of 2020. It was a most unusual and challenging year. We certainly learned to expect the unexpected, innovate, adapt and draw on our resilience.
This lesson was especially true for our Class of 2020 Level 8 students, in their important final year at The Australian Ballet School. Faced with a once-in-a-century pandemic, our students were unable to undertake their usual programme on-site and in-person at our purpose-built facilities. Despite this, our senior students showed great leadership, rose to the challenge, adapted to remote learning, and achieved truly wonderful work. One such result was Murmuring, which was learned and rehearsed entirely via Zoom before being performed at Princes Pier in Port Melbourne. You can watch the stunning Murmuring here.
When it was safe to return to our studios, the School had to innovate to ensure that students were able to return to onsite training safely and effectively. Typically, our 2020 graduates would quickly move onto their professional careers; however, the path was not so simple in the era of COVID-19. In order to support these hardworking and exceptional emerging artists, The Australian Ballet School developed a special Post Graduate Year for 2021.
This optional programme has been designed exclusively for the Level 8 class of 2020, extending upon their learning by providing training, classes, performance and professional opportunities, health and wellbeing services, and more.
We're extremely proud of what our students accomplished during an exceptionally difficult year. They have demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience in spite of all they have faced, and we can't wait to watch our Post Graduate students flourish in 2021 and into the future.
