The Alumni of The Australian Ballet School can be found all over the world and we consider its ranks to include graduates of the School’s vocational training; including dance and teacher training. Our Alumni also include those who have contributed to the success of the school by serving for a year or more as staff or board members.
We love to hear what our Alumni are up to, whether it be dance related or not. So please stay in touch with news, stories, photos or ideas via email@example.com
Alumni of the ABS have gone on to make notable careers in a range of career paths as classical and contemporary dancers, choreographers, artistic directors, creators of independent dance projects, musical theatre and entertainment industry performers, actors, and recreational and vocational teachers.
ABS Alumni can be found studying or working in fields such as physiotherapy, Pilates, education, exercise science, arts management, psychology, information technology, design, communications, photography, human resources and recruitment, aviation and, of course, the dance industry.
The ABS has developed a successful record of accomplishment in producing dancers of the highest calibre. In addition to the Alumni who are employed by TAB, ABS alumni can be found filling the ranks of companies such as Sydney Dance Company, West Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, and in dance companies throughout North America, Asia and Europe, including the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet. Typically, 92% of the ABS’s graduates secure full-time contracts of employment with professional dance companies within 12 months of graduation. This average total percentage is one of the highest full-time employment rates of any tertiary institution in Australia. Overall, the employment figures illustrate the success of the ABS.
ABS Alumni can also been found choreographing throughout Australasia and Europe putting their Australian stamp on national and international performances. For instance, choreographic talent has been nurtured over the years with graduates such as Graeme Murphy AO, Meryl Tankard, Stephen Baynes, Gideon Obarzanek, Leigh Warren, Lucas Jervies, Tim Harbour and Reed Luplau having distinguished international reputations; both Stephen Baynes and Tim Harbour are Resident Choreographers with TAB. The creative influence of the ABS continues today with graduates, Paul Knobloch, Timothy Brown, Wakako Asano, David Jonathan, Ashley Wright and Tim O’Donnell, Richard House and Jack Lister all in the process of establishing their choreographic credentials and spreading Australian cultural influences.
