Meet Ramita Coldrey

Meet Ramita Coldrey, one of our 2026 Level 8 students!

Ramita was born in Bangkok, Thailand where she began ballet at the age of five in a small studio on the second floor of a petrol station. She later moved to Tasmania with her family at the age of nine and joined ‘The House of Dance’ where she was able to explore her interest in ballet even more. Ramita was accepted into The Australian Ballet School Full-time Program in 2022 to begin Level 4. This marked the start of her dedicated journey. What Ramita most enjoys about being at the school is going through the program with her peers and being around such a supportive group of like-minded people. She also enjoys being able to learn from some of the most knowledgeable teachers who have had extensive experience within the ballet industry.

A highlight for Ramita during her time at the school has been performing Serenata by Stephen Baynes and Lyra by Prue Lang. Ramita most looks forward to being able to perform Concerto by Lucas Jervies and going on National Tour with The Australian Ballet Company's 2026 "On Tour" Program. Having originally begun piano lessons when she was four, her background in music leads Ramita to be deeply moved by ballet and how it uses music to connect to audiences on a deeper level.

She also enjoys exploring new ways of movement in other styles such as Spanish, Ukrainian character dance and contemporary as it gives her a chance to learn more about her movement quality and how she can showcase different sides of her personality. After she graduates Ramita hopes to perform professionally in a ballet company where she can strive to further develop her skills and her self-expression as an artist.

In her free time, Ramita enjoys making her own clothes, listening to jazz, playing piano and trying new bakeries with friends. Fun fact: Ramita used to be a competitive swimmer.
