Meet Matia Ingrey

Meet Matia Ingrey, one of our 2026 Level 8 students and School Captains!

Born in Newcastle, Matia grew up on the golf course, but her love for dance ultimately won. Matia completed her early training at National College of Dance, where she feels fortunate to have learned under their exceptional faculty and particularly under the guidance of Brett Morgan OAM.

In 2022, Matia joined The Australian Ballet School following a full scholarship offer from her performances at the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship, an achievement she regards with sincere appreciation. Since joining the school, Matia has embraced performance opportunities, and one of her favourite experiences has been dancing in George Balanchine’s Scotch Symphony.

This year, Matia had the honour of representing the school in the Partner School Choreographic Project at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, where she worked with world‑renowned choreographer Edwaard Liang, an extraordinary and formative experience in her professional journey. Shortly after returning, Matia was thrilled to join The Australian Ballet for a seasonal secondment to the Company in La Bayadère, The Kingdom of the Shades.

In her graduation year, Matia hopes to continue growing as both an artist and an individual through performance experiences. Matia is drawn to the purity and expressive depth of classical ballet and its vast creative possibilities, alongside a deep interest in the movement language of contemporary dance. This year, she is thrilled to join The Australian Ballet’s National Tour, performing repertoire and excerpts from The Nutcracker. When she’s not training, Matia enjoys walking through the Botanic Gardens with a coffee in hand, discovering Melbourne's unique dining experiences with friends and soaking up life in a city she loves.
