Megan Connelly

Artistic Director and Head Of School

Megan Connelly is a highly respected leader in classical ballet training, dancer management, and ballet pedagogy, with more than 30 years of experience. She began her career with The Australian Ballet in 1991 before moving into teaching, earning a Vocational Graduate Certificate in Elite Dance Instruction from The Australian Ballet School and later joining the School’s teaching faculty.

From 2002 to 2009, Megan served as Assistant to Artistic Director David McAllister, a role that deepened her expertise in artistic leadership and dancer development. From 2010 to 2020, she held dual positions—teaching on the School’s faculty while also serving with The Australian Ballet as a Repetiteur and Rehabilitation Specialist—supporting both the next generation of dancers and the technical and artistic progression of company artists. During this period, she also co‑authored Bodywise, contributing to the field of dancer health and wellbeing. Notably, she was part of the team that supported David Hallberg’s return to the stage after a career‑threatening injury and later served on his artistic team through to early 2024, during the early years of his tenure as Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet.

In 2014, Megan was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research international best practice in dance training, coaching, and rehabilitation, benchmarking both The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School against leading global institutions. She has also presented at IADMS conferences and delivered keynote and specialist presentations across elite sport and the dance education sector, further contributing to industry knowledge and professional practice.

In 2024, she was appointed Artistic Director and Head of School, becoming the fifth director in The Australian Ballet School’s 60‑year history.
