The Dame Margaret Scott Endowment Fund

by The Australian Ballet School |

< Back to Ballet Matters

The Australian Ballet School’s much-loved annual showcase filled the stages of Arts Centre Melbourne and The Concourse in Sydney in September. The program opened spectacularly with over 100 dancers taking to the stage for The Australian Ballet School Défilé - a tribute to Dame Margaret Scott, our founding Director, who passed away earlier this year.

Dame Margaret’s vision was to support young dancers to achieve their potential and develop outstanding Australian artists. Fifty-five years on, The Australian Ballet School has nurtured hundreds of talented students who have gone on to achieve brilliant careers at The Australian Ballet and in leading ballet companies around the world. Many return to us to train to become teachers; to give back to the art form and continue to shape the future of ballet in Australia.

Before the rousing Défilé, Director Lisa Pavane launched The Dame Margaret Scott Endowment Fund, established with the blessing of family members to ensure that Dame Margaret’s vision and legacy continues. It was touching to have Dame Margaret’s family in the audience – husband Professor Denton and son Matthew in Melbourne, and granddaughter Olivia in Sydney.

The Dame Margaret Scott Endowment Fund will, in perpetuity, support The Australian Ballet School to provide holistic programs to young artists-in-training, to empower excellence, to and advance the art of ballet. Please consider making a contribution to this important legacy.
