Meet Zachary Medved

Meet Zachary Medved, one of our 2026 Level 8 students!

Zachary was born in Canberra where he began ballet classes at the age of four after watching his older sister's performance and insisting on taking classes. Moving to Melbourne at the age of eight, he continued dancing and joined the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) in 2019 where he undertook his secondary and dance education under the guidance of a dedicated team of teachers, notably Timothy Harbour.

In 2025, he joined The Australian Ballet School (ABS), where he was able to work with acclaimed national and international choreographers throughout the year, ending on a high, where over the Summer break he was seconded to The Australian Ballet (TAB) to dance in their Storytime Ballet: The Nutcracker, which was created in collaboration with the company’s former artistic director, David McAllister AC.

Now in his graduate year, he is excited to perform works by Lucas Jervies and Stephanie Lake, as well as working with Sydney Dance Company as apart of their 2026 secondment program.

Alongside dancing, Zachary takes pride in his own choreographic work, which has been cultivated through his dance training and life experiences since he first made a piece for an annual student choreographed show in 2022 at VCASS. And though he finds the process tedious at times, it bears the sweetest of fruits.

Zachary has an unwavering passion which has led him to be drawn to extremes, he explores this through classical ballet’s unending journey of seeking purity through human movement. He also loves the stage as he feels comfortable to be seen without being judged.

On Sundays, Zachary always listens to jazz music when he drives to and from work.
