Adrian Burnett

Chair of the Board

Member of the Health & Wellbeing Committee, Member of the Nominations & Remuneration Committee

Adrian is an arts leader with extensive national and international experience across cultural leadership, programming and performance. He was appointed Head of Programming at Carriageworks, one of Australia’s leading arts and cultural institutions, in 2024.

Adrian previously served as Senior Curator and Producer of New Annual, the City of Newcastle’s flagship arts festival (2021-2024), and spent more than a decade at Creative Australia, including as Director of Dance and Multi-artform, where he led national funding programs and strategic initiatives supporting the Australian arts sector.

An alumnus of The Australian Ballet School, Adrian was a Senior Artist and Resident Choreographer with The Australian Ballet and has created works for major international companies including Dutch National Ballet, Houston Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre, and Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Adrian currently serves as Chair of Critical Path (Australia’s leading centre for choreographic research and development) and Chair of the Dance and Physical Theatre Board for Create NSW. He holds a Master of Arts and Entertainment Management from Deakin University.

Gerlinde Scholtz

Gerlinde is a not-for-profit sector leader with experience in both senior executive and director roles. She brings a track record of success in leading transformational growth in for-purpose organisations to this appointment.

Gerlinde is currently Chief Operating Officer of a not-for-profit campaigning organisation in the sustainability space. Her previous executive experience included appointments as the Executive Officer of national peak body Community Foundations Australia, Chief Operating Officer of a medical research institute, interim CEO of a family violence support service, and as Director of Development at the University of Melbourne. Gerlinde has served on the boards of organisations engaged in community banking, sustainability, women’s health, and family counselling.

Stephen Adrian

Stephen is a Consultant Director at SW Australia and has been with SW for more than 45 years. Stephen’s skill areas include finance, tax and business structures focusing mainly on private groups. He has also acted for many not-for-profit organisations and is the responsible person of a number of private ancillary foundations. He is a director of several private companies, and a past director of listed public companies. In addition to being a director of the ABS, he is the chair of the Skyline Education Foundation and is member of the advisory board of Skyline Hatch, the deputy chair of Waterski and Wakeboard Australia Ltd and Chair of their Finance and Risk Committee. He was a director of Food and Drink Victoria Ltd for 11 years and the chair of their Corporate Governance Committee. He is a past member of the MLC Board and the MLC Foundation. Stephen authors the Company Directors Manual, recommended by the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Taxation Law from Monash University. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Paul Cross

Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee, Member of the Development Committee. Chair of the Board of The Australian Ballet School Foundation Pty Ltd.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne, an MBA from the Melbourne Business School and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He is an experienced software entrepreneur, investor and executive and has launched several successful start-ups and held senior positions in global software and marketing services companies including Oracle Inc, BBDO and Responsys. violence support service, and as Director of Development at the University of Melbourne. Kristy Ayre

Kristy is an accomplished arts leader with over 20 years’ experience spanning strategic leadership, creative production, and sector development. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and recipient of the Mary Orloff Prize, she served as Executive Director and Co-CEO of Chunky Move, Victoria’s flagship contemporary dance company, from 2019 to March 2026.  

Prior to joining Chunky Move, Kristy was Executive Producer at Phillip Adams BalletLab/Temperance Hall (2015–19), Associate Producer at Next Wave (2011–14), and Co-Producer of the National Dance Forum (2015). She has also held sector leadership roles including Co-Chair of the Green Room Awards Association Dance Panel (2016–19) and Board Member of Next Wave (2015–21). In March 2026, Kristy commenced as Engagement, Strategy and Business Lead at the City of Melbourne, supporting initiatives that strengthen the city’s cultural ecology and engagement with artists, organisations, and communities.  aul holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne, an MBA from the Melbourne Business School and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Bradley Chatfield

Member of the Development Committee

Bradley’s roles over more than 36 years in the creative and performing arts industry include performing artist, rehearsal director, teacher, educator, mentor and arts advisor. Bradley currently curates the First Nations Programming at Queensland Performing Arts Centre honouring our First Nations storytellers, and “Clancestry” – a celebration of arts and culture at QPAC. He has worked in education as Head of Dance at the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in Brisbane, Head of Contemporary Development and Course Director at Transit Dance in Melbourne, and as Rehearsal Director and member of the Community & Education team at Dance North. Born in Mordialloc, Victoria, Bradley is a descendant of the Kamilaroi people.

Upon graduating from The Australian Ballet School, Bradley joined the Hong Kong Ballet. From 1991-2009 he danced with Sydney Dance Company performing the full company repertoire and touring extensively in Australia and internationally. During his career he has also undertaken the restaging of many of Graeme Murphy’s works. Bradley has received numerous dance awards, including recognition for the lead dance role in a touring season of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, and has been named in Sydney Morning Herald’s “Top 100 Most Influential People in Sydney”. He has served on the boards of Blakdance, Australasian dance Collective and the Supercell Dance Festival, as well as being a peer assessor for The Australian Council for the Arts.

Geoffrey Guggenheimer

Geoff is the Head of Student Development and the Wellbeing and Performance Coordinator in the School’s rowing program. He is also the former Director of Boarding at Melbourne Grammar School. In these roles he oversees the pastoral and well-beingprogrammes, leading a team of people responsible for the academic, social, spiritual, and physical development of students in the senior school.

Prior to this he had been the Director of Boarding at Christ Church Grammar in Perth. Geoff has a Bachelor of Applied Science from RMIT and a Graduate Certificate in Sportmanagementfrom Deakin University.

Lynda McAlary-Smith

Member of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee

Lynda is an accomplished public purpose senior executive. Currently the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Lynda is a regulatory expert and qualified lawyer with management qualifications and a wealth of experience in leadership roles with the Commonwealth and Victorian State governments in areas including business, workplace relations and building and construction.

Her corporate leadership responsibilities have included audit, governance, regulation, human resources, occupational health and safety, and technology. A longstanding ballet devotee and Ambassador to the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation.

Katie Foulkes OLY

Katie is a strategic leader with more than 20 years’ experience working across Australian and international organisations spanning technology, education, government, utilities, retail, transport, insurance and sport. She is currently a Director at the Australian Sports Commission where she leads national initiatives focused on strengthening the capability of coaches and officials and fostering positive, sustainable environments for participation and performance across Australian sport.  

A dual Olympian and former international rowing coach, Katie was Australia’s top-ranked in her field for almost a decade and was among the first women appointed Head Coach of a national rowing team. Her experience in elite sport, leadership development and systems change informs her work supporting individuals and organisations to perform sustainably at the highest level.  

Katie is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business and Economics and serves on its Enterprise Specialist Network and Advisory Board. She holds the post-nominal OLY in recognition of her Olympic contribution to sport, is a national member of the Australian Olympians Association and mentors athletes through the Australian Olympic Committee. Katie is a lecturer in MBA programs and a sought-after advisor and presenter.  

David McAllister AC

Alumni of The Australian Ballet School, David was the Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet (2001-2020), after rising through the ranks to Principal Artist. Today, he is a freelance choreographer, teacher, and coach. He has served as interim Artistic Director of Royal New Zealand Ballet as well as two years as guest Artistic Director at WA Ballet in 2024/25.

David is also a founding director of an international ballet consultancy and has a Graduate Diploma in Arts and Entertainment Management. David’s contribution to the artform has been recognised with numerous awards including appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia for services to ballet (2004), promoted to Companion of the Order of Australia in 2021, and the Queen Elizbeth II Coronation Award awarded by the Royal Academy of Dance in the same year.
