The Ballet Society VIC warmly invites you to the Melbourne launch of Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up: Lessons in Love and Surmounting Grief, the moving and beautifully written memoir by retired ballerina and now author, Petal Ashmole Winstanley.
Date: Saturday 18 October
Time: 4.30pm
Venue: Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre
Petal’s extraordinary journey began in Perth, where she was taught by the legendary Madame Kira Bousloff OAM, a mentor whose influence would shape her career and her life. From there, she travelled to London during the 1960s, launching an international career that saw her perform with renowned companies including Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, where she became a soloist known for her range in both classical and contemporary roles.
Her memoir reflects not only the glamour and discipline of professional ballet but also the personal grief and loss she has endured. Through it all, her enduring love for dance has been both a refuge and a force of transformation.
This special afternoon will feature a conversation between Petal and David McAllister AC, who will explore her life, work, and lasting contributions to the world of ballet.
The event includes:
– Refreshments including a traditional afternoon tea: scones, jam and cream, tea and coffee
– Q&A
– Book signing
Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase on the day, with $5 from each sale donated to The Australian Ballet School.
Bookings essential.
