Sam was born and raised in Canberra and began dancing at the age of two after watching his sister take dance classes. He studied jazz, tap, hip hop and ballet at Jayz Dance Company. From the age of ten, Sam was part of the Interstate Training Program (ITP) at The Australian Ballet School, and in 2023 at the age of 15, moved to Melbourne to enter the Full-Time Program in Level 5.
In his time at the school, Sam has enjoyed performing works by Paul Knobloch, Stephen Baynes, Lucas Jervies, George Balanchine and Rudolf Nureyev. Sam loves the feeling of euphoria that comes with performing onstage, and the sense of achievement after a performance. He enjoys connecting with others onstage to create both meaningful and memorable experiences for the audience. Sam has gratefully received the Excellence Award for Classical Ballet in Levels 5, 6 and 7, the Kelvin Coe OBE Award, and the Ballet Society Victoria Scholarship in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
In Level 7, he was selected to represent the school at Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto as part of their exchange program. Later that year Sam also joined the Level 8 cohort on Regional Tour with The Australian Ballet. He is proud to be representing the school as Vice-Captain this year, and was thrilled to be on secondment with The Australian Ballet to perform in their Sydney season of Romeo and Juliet.
Now in his graduate year, Sam is looking forward to tackling the challenging repertoire, in particular “Concerto Anniversary” by Lucas Jervies, as well as performing in Regional Tour with The Australian Ballet. In his spare time, Sam loves listening to music, spending time with friends and family, and watching motor racing.
