Regional Tour: Spreading the joy of dance across the nation!

by The Australian Ballet School |

The Australian Ballet Regional Tour (formerly The Dancers Company) was formed in 1980 and each year since, in their final year of training at the School, our students joined the company and embarked on an adventure to spread the joy of dance across Australia, dazzling audiences far and wide. As eloquently expressed by Artistic Director David Hallberg, “Our regional tour is a vital link to the audiences who love ballet around the country.” And after a 2-year hiatus the tour returned in 2022.

The tour is an exciting opportunity for our talented students to gain real-world experience of being part of a touring company, under the guidance and leadership of the Company and the School, and dancing a variety of works by world-class choreographers in multiple theatres.

Highlighted by a tribute to the beauty of the best-loved composer of ballet music, McAllister’s Swan Lake Variations allowed the stage to be set for our budding Level 8 students to flourish, while Jervies’ The Vow provided an excellent opportunity to display their character and acting skills.

Program included:

Swan Lake Variations choreographed by David McAllister AC
Concerto Pas de Deux choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan
La Bayadère pas d’action choreographed by Marius Petipa
Flames of Paris Pas de Deux choreographed by Vasili Vainonen (staged by The Australian Ballet staff)
In A Landscape choreographed by Tim Harbour
The Vow choreographed by Lucas Jervies

The Regional Tour spanned across the far reaches of Australia across Tasmania, Victoria and the Northern Territory, and concluded on 27 August at the Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs.
