Open Classes - Overview

The Australian Ballet School offers classes in Melbourne and around Australia which any student can attend without the need to Audition. Open Classes give students the opportunity to join us and experience our world class training.

Open Classes cater to male and female students from 3 to 18 years old. Most classes cater to all levels of experience but we also offer specialist classes for Early Learning, Boys and Pre-Professional students. We structure fun and informative sessions lead by specialist teachers from the School, The Australian Ballet, and the dance community. In each class our excellent teaching staff are paired with a specialist ballet pianist, providing students the amazing benefits of learning with live music.

Open Masterclasses run for approximately 1.5 hours, and are held in a variety of major capital cities throughout Australia.

Summer School takes place at our studios in Melbourne in January each year and offers five consecutive days of comprehensive training in classical ballet and other dance styles for students from 6 to 18 years of age. Summer School offers Open, Pre-professional and Boys programmes with a special and fun Creative programme for children from 6 to 7 years old.

Winter School takes place in July every year and offers 3 days of training in classical ballet and other dance styles for students from 9 to 16 years of age.

For children wishing to take regular classes after school or on weekends in Melbourne, we offer Pre-School and Children’s Ballet for boys and girls aged 3 to 10 years. We also hold specialist Boys Ballet to inspire boys aged 9 to 15 who would like to explore movement and dance.

Every year the School holds a Health and Well-being Workshop which is beneficial for the education of dance industry professionals and is often also of interest to dance students and their parents. Past events have been on the topics of Inner Strength, The Young Dancer’s Mind and Pointe Matters.
