Born in Melbourne, Mark Annear undertook his early dance training with Kathleen Gorham at the National Theatre Ballet School and was accepted into The Australian Ballet School in 1978. He was an inaugural member of the Dancers Company in 1980 and joined the Australian Ballet in 1981 performing many leading roles throughout his eight years as a company member.
Mr Annear was Lecturer in Classical Dance at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts from 1989 to 1992 and has been a senior classical teacher at The Australian Ballet School since 1993 and Head of Senior School from 1999 to 2008. Other teaching posts have included several international companies and schools including the Royal Ballet School, Beijing Dance Academy, National Ballet School of Canada and New Zealand School of Dance.
Mark is the School’s first Head of Teacher Training and brings his wealth of knowledge of vocational ballet training and teaching theory to this position.
