VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (VET)
NATIONAL VET REGULATOR (NVR) REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION (RTO)
As a NVR RTO, The Australian Ballet School is formally approved to deliver, assess and issue qualifications for nationally recognised training. Registration requires an organisation to operate in accordance with nationally agreed standards. Registration of NVR RTOs is regulated through the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Registration standards are endorsed by the Ministerial Council of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Vocational Education and Training (VET) refers to education and training that focuses on delivering skills and knowledge required for specific industries. Training in the dance industry is focused on assisting aspiring performers to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to meet the profession’s high standards. The Australian Ballet School’s curriculum sets the requirements, against which training and assessment take place. Students must demonstrate that they are able to achieve the technical and creative mastery as outlined in the curriculum.
As a NVR RTO (provider code3132 and CRICOS code 00253A), The Australian Ballet School offers nationally recognised courses from Level 5. The Diploma of Dance (22034VIC, CRICOS 072515K) that students study in Levels 5 and 6 is a two year course. In Level 7 students study for the Advanced Diploma of Dance (22029VIC, CRICOS 072514M), developing skills for transition into the dance industry through performance and career management. The Graduate Year students study for the Vocational Graduate Diploma in Classical Ballet (10012NAT) where the focus is on preparing students at virtuoso level for the transition into the dance profession. Students refine and analyse their dance training with greater emphasis on professional performance and career management.
The School’s Vocational Graduate Certificate in Elite Dance Instruction (21823VIC, CRICOS 072516J) was accredited in 2007. The course is available to professional dancers wishing to undertake teacher training and provides graduates with a comprehensive knowledge and a strong focus on the methodology of vocational dance training, based on an eight level system derived from the Vaganova method. The course structure includes also provides the opportunity to enhance existing technical expertise through the application of pedagogical skills appropriate to this high level of professional dance training. The course is only open to a small number of participants at any one time in order to provide a highly individualised programme. In 2009 the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Elite Ballet Instruction was modified to the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Elite Dance Instruction.
